THE STORY OF AUTOMATIC CHALLANS BEGINS...
In 1995, I moved to Delhi and joined M/s Iqbal Chand Khurana (a lottery company), as a Programmer (Later I was promoted as Deputy Manager- EDP) .
M/s Iqbal Chand Khurana (ICK), as a Sole Selling Agents of different state governments, was dealing with lottery business and belongs to Khurana Groups of Companies. (ICK, Khurana & Company, K & Co.,   Anu Agency and Kashyap Agency )

As a programmer, I used to maintain the existing software, trouble-shoot the day-to-day problems of around 30 to 40 data entry operators and training them. That time the sales office was operating from Noida, UP (North India) to sell lotteries in South India, as the sales tax in UP was lowest in India.

Towards the end of 1996, UP State Government increased the sales tax rate. So our office opened its sales office in Bidar, Andhra Pradesh and Bangalore, Karnatak, where sales tax rate is lower than North Indian states. For few months the challans and bills were used to be prepared in Headquarter, Zamrudpur by my Manager (EDP Manager) with the help of the operators as the sales staff were also sifted to sales office in South India.

The preparation of challans was a very complicated and time consuming tax. The operator should have the in-depth knowledge of lotteries, bundles of tickets, Series, the preparation charts and the expertise how to prepare challans. So my boss and the operator used to sit late-hours to prepare the challans and invoices. Sometimes, I used to sit with them with seer curiousness to see how the challans are prepared and why it needs so much expertise.

I observe the sequence and analyze the logic. I could visualize the automatic challan preparation and it seemed so simple to me that the next day I put the proposal to my boss to make the challan preparation Automatic.. then the proposal presented to the General Manager. Later the proposed system was known known in the group of companies as "AUTOMATIC CHALLAN SYSTEM"

The proposal was discussed in the meetings of all programers and consultants of the group of companies. The outcome was negative. The consultant of K & Co. and programers of other companies straight away said ..."It is implossible...". With continuous argument of Ms. Arushi in my favour and later with the insistence of Command Puri, they gave me another chance, where I was told to prepare a blue-print of "AUTOMATIC CHALLAN SYSTEM".

With hard work and seer determination, I was able to prepare the blue-print. I explained the logic and flow of data in a conference of General Managers, Managers, Programers and software consultants.. and they are convinced some how. Finally they gave me one month to go ahead for the development prototype of the said project. In a month of day-night hard work, I was able to develop not a prototype, but the real project. In the next meeting it was demonstrated. Everyone was quite satisfied besides few changes they suggested.

In January 1997, I went to Bidar (Andhra Pradesh) and Bangalore (Karnartak) to install the Automatic Challan System. It was a very successful and pleasant visit.
